In Sept. 2010 our Cedar Rapids, IA  Patch group had the pleasure of hosting Miriam for one of her Free Demonstrations & Workshops. Being an instructor myself I have to say Miriam is extremely organized and thorough in how she teaches her wax technique. She teaches with such passion that after the free demo, each student was chomping at their bits to purchase all of her products and get started on the workshop. As Patch leader and Editor for the Iowa Gourd Society I can tell you first hand (they've told meso) how well everyone has enjoyed this new technique! I myself find it to be one of the“most relaxing and instantly gratifying” techniques I've tried so far on a gourd; and I've tried just about everything! Thanks to Miriam for sharing her technique and passion for her art and to her husband Bud for traveling the country so she can do so with all of us. " I attended a class that Mariam taught in Visalia and also took my 15 year old granddaughter with me.  What a joy the class turned out to be and time spent with my granddaughter.  Mariam was so patient with all and made sure that we knew the procedure so that we could complete more projects at home.  I bought some of the products while at the class and then after showing others I have order more. Mariam and her husband shipped the items to me within 2 days and I was ready to give them to my little neighbors so that they had their own tools to work with.  The neighbor boys are 10 and 12 and have been making ornaments to give as Christmas gifts.  If you have an opportunity to attend any classes with Mariam I would highly recommend that you go and learn something new and meet new people and just have a good time"                                                 -  Ivey in Visalia, CA.

I recently bought the bare minimum suppplies to try out Miriam Joy's wax technique...boy was that a mistake!  I should have bought the whole store!  It really is so easy ANYBODY can do it!!!! Miriam Joy exemplifies her name "JOY" for that is what our Cedar Rapids area gourd patch experienced in the class Miriam conducted for us in September.  She and her husband set up the display and working materials in short time and then the fun began.  Each step was instructed so that it was easy to follow.  I bought materials from Miriam to use at home and made "cookie jar" gourds for all six of my grandchildren and for others for Christmas gifts using the waxing technique on several.  The one I made in class I gave to a friend for a house warming and she couldn't believe it was a gourd.  Most people don't.  Thanks to Miriam for the new medium of decorating gourds.
